Celebrating 7 Years of Success in Mental Health Education and Saving Lives

By: Prepare U
7 years ago our team of experts in psychology, technology, crisis interventions, adolescent education and family survivors of suicide from around the world set out on a mission to reduce suffering and to improve the lives of the masses.

Prepare U and The Live Network are proud and grateful to celebrate 7 years of successfully moving the needle in mental health and saving lives. With our flagship Evidence-Based and Supported Prepare U Mental Health Curriculum and dynamic programs, we have successfully served tens of thousands of adolescents and their families. Prepare U is the first ever evidence-supported experiential mental health curriculum delivered in the classroom and more over, successfully delivered by everyday teachers with no specialized mental health training. Cofounded in 2015 by leading experts in mental healthcare, technology, research, and education, Prepare U launched in 2017 with top level recognition as an IBM Global Entrepreneur Grant recipient.

We are so thankful to be able to contribute to this generation and the next generation in designing a brighter and healthier future. Without the partnership and commitment from passionate allies in the helping professions, none of this would have been possible. Prepare U is so thankful to all of those that have worked with us to move the needle in mental health. Our innovative approach to improving school wide community mental health wellness has been featured internationally in documentaries, including: Teen Vogue, U.S. Department of Education, The Huffington Post, and endorsed by behavioral health hospitals as well as endorsements from top leaders including the American Psychological Association Society for Media Psychology and Technology.

7 years ago our team of experts in psychology, technology, crisis interventions, adolescent education and family survivors of suicide from around the world set out on a mission to reduce suffering and to improve the lives of the masses. Prepare U is a national leader and model showing that mental health education in the classroom can be successful in improving outcomes for the next generation. Additionally, since 2017 Prepare U has been researched in a range of settings both quantitatively and qualitatively. Researched in middle and high school students ages 13-19, the Prepare U program has been shown to significantly increase content-based learning, reduce the intensity of traumatic symptoms, reduce anxiety symptoms, and support overall health, while increasing participant’s meaning, purpose, and emotional support.

What We’ve Achieved So Far

In these 7 short years, we have made incredible progress in mental health education. We have partnered with some of the leading organizations in adolescent mental health, and have trained hundreds of educators to implement our curriculum successfully in their classrooms. Here are just a few highlights of our achievements over the past 7 years:

  • Our team has worked with numerous states around the country and their educational boards to create a solid framework for mental health education

  • Prepare U hosted the U.S. Surgeon General with state legislators in the state of New York while New York became the first state in the country to mandate student mental health education

  • The Prepare U 15 Class Curriculum was featured within the U.S. Department of Education as West Bloomfield High School in Michigan was the first school to mandate mental health education after 5 losses to suicide in one year

  • Our technology platform was designated as the official practice management platform of the Canadian Psychological Association

  • Prepare U has been endorsed by the president of the American Psychological Association Society for Media Psychology and Technology

  • Prepare U has been featured in documentaries on suicide prevention and mental health education

  • Prepare U has received a U.S. Patent on portions of its underlying technology platform

  • Prepare U developed 2 additional programs for Middle School (6th grade and up) and Elementary School (4th/5th grade)

  • To date no schools that have continued to utilize Prepare U have reported any suicides

Mental health is a critical issue facing our society today, and Prepare U is proud to be at the forefront of efforts to improve mental health education. In just 7 short years, we have made great strides in improving outcomes for young people struggling with mental health issues. Our team behind the scenes at Prepare U has developed and validated novel assessment tools, been awarded a comprehensive telehealth patent, and created and deployed the first ever evidence-supported experiential mental health curriculum in North America. We are committed to continuing our work until all students have access to effective mental health education that can help them thrive both academically and emotionally. We extend our warmest thanks and appreciation to those who continue to fight for mental health education for our youth today.
